Bonfires and barbeques on your garden plot

Nothing beats an evening spent barbequing and having a bonfire on your Garden Plot! Not only is it a fun way to spend time with family and friends, but it's also a great way to enjoy the fruits of your labour. Whether it's grilling some juicy tomatoes or roasting some sweet potatoes, there's nothing quite like cooking with produce you've grown yourself.

Staying safe

When it comes to bonfires and barbecues, safety should always be your top priority! After all, the last thing you want to do is end up with a nasty burn or a singed eyebrow. To make sure your outdoor gathering goes off without a hitch, make sure you keep an eye on the fire and keep a bucket of water nearby in case of an emergency. And don't forget to have fun - it's not a party until someone sings a round of campfire songs!

We ask that if you light a fire you;

  • Light it away from any boundary or combustible materials

  • Only burn timber or green waste

  • Have a bucket of water or sand on hand to douse the flames

  • Keep an eye on children and animals

  • Never leave the fire unattended

Disposable barbeques

Disposable barbeques are a real nightmare, especially for the environment. They're one of those things that seem so convenient and easy to use, but come with a hefty price tag for Mother Nature. Not only do they produce a lot of smoke and air pollution, but the materials used in disposable barbeques are not recyclable and often end up in landfills. So, we've decided to say goodbye to disposable barbeques and hello to the good old wood or charcoal fired bbq. Let's keep it clean and green, and keep disposable bbqs off the Community Gardens!

Burning green-waste

We know it is tempting to light a bonfire and burn all that green waste, but don't do it! Not only will it create a lot of smoke and bother your neighbours, but you'll also be missing out on some great composting opportunities. Instead, why not turn your green waste into nutrient-rich compost for your allotment? You'll be doing the environment a favour and you'll have amazing vegetables to show for it!

Extra plots available...

We've heard your calls and we've answered! We've created more plots due to the high demand, so if you've been wanting to get your hands dirty and start growing your own veggies, now is the perfect time!

Don't keep it a secret - tell your friends and even share it on social media! We're sure they'll thank you for the tip. So what are you waiting for? Get your application in now and start growing!
